Historian, author and journalist Marc

 Leepson is the author of six books, most recently (2007), Desperate Engagement, a history of the little-known but crucial July 9, 1864, Civil War Battle of Monocacy and Confederate General Jubal Early's subsequent march on Washington, D.C.

His previous books include Flag: An American Biography, the history of the Stars and Stripes from the beginnings to today (2005); Saving Monticello, a history of Thomas Jefferson's house concentrating on what happened to Monticello after Jefferson died (2001); and the Webster's New World Dictionary of the Vietnam War (1998).

He lives with his family in western Loudoun County, Virginia.
