Kevin C. Fitzpatrick was born
in Baltimore, Maryland. He is the author of A Journey into Dorothy Parker’s New York, part of the ArtPlace Series of Roaring Forties Press. In 1998 Fitzpatrick launched dorothyparker.com and the Dorothy Parker Society, which has been called “a drinking club with a book problem.” The organization has gained media attention from Lisbon to Los Angeles and counts 3000 members worldwide. Fitzpatrick serves as president of the DPS. In 2005 he led the way for Dorothy Parker’s New Jersey birthplace to be named a national literary landmark by Friends of Libraries USA. In 2008 the DPS began conducting a community service education program for underprivileged children in Hell’s Kitchen. Fitzpatrick earned a B.A. in mass communication from Northeast Missouri State University. After a tour as a lance corporal in the U.S. Marines, he was a newspaper copyeditor for five years. He left journalism and moved to New York City where the hours and salaries were better. Before becoming a writer, Fitzpatrick held media jobs that paid him to read comic books, attend baseball games, and watch television. He has worked in saloons, warehouses, and advertising agencies. He currently produces algonquinroundtable.org, an online repository for his Round Table research. In conjunction with the Algonquin Hotel, Fitzpatrick leads walking tours of the former homes and haunts of the Vicious Circle. He and his wife live in Manhattan and Shelter Island, New York.
