Frances Madeson

Playwright and novelist, Frances Madeson, holds degrees from Washington University in St. Louis and the Graduate School and University Center of City University of New York. Frances has read from Cooperative Village, her debut novel, at McNally Jackson Booksellers, Olsson's Dupont Circle, Rapture Books and Cafe, The Sunday Salon Reading Series, Dirty Laundary:Loads of Prose Reading Series, BookCourt Books, Bluestockings, A Radical Bookstore, Barnes & Nobles in Philadelphia, Stamford, Long Island and Park Slope, multiple branches of the New York Public Library, the Henry Carter Hull Library in Clinton, Connecticut, and the Paramus, New Jersey Public Library in celebration of National Libraries Week 2009.

She has met with book clubs in Manhattan, Arlington, Virginia, and Warwick, New York and chapters of Hadassah and Code Pink. Cooperative Village was the NOW NYC June '08 Book Club pick.

Frances performed the One-Woman Show based on the novel in a four-week run at The Church Street School for Art and Music during May 2008. Shows included benefit performances for Books Through Bars, the Coalition to Expand Voting Rights and the Gotham Center for NYC History. In addition to single engagements at public libraries in the tri-state area, she has brought the play to the Live Arts Collaboration Salon at University Settlement, and the New York Library Association's Intellectual Freedom Roundtable at the 2008 conference in Saratoga Springs: "Connecting, Collaborating and Cooperating."

Her work appears online at TomPaine.com, AlterNet, The All Souls Quarterly, GreenEdge NYC's The Leaflet, The Natural Resources Defense Council, and The STaugustine Bunker Pagoda's Endless Thread; she's guest-blogged on The Happy Booker and Jewess.

Frances is happily at work on her next comic novel, tentatively titled: "The Flickering Lights"
