Fran Hawthorne has followed the rise of 401(k) plans, the fall of old-fashioned pensions, and the ins and outs of Wall Street's dance with Washington, as an editor and writer at Fortune, BusinessWeek, and Institutional Investor magazine (where she's now a senior contributing editor).
